Journey to Citadel
Background & Motivation
Journey to Citadel is an attempt in a somewhat symphonic style. At its core, this piece is about a journey — not a leisurely trip, but a purposeful, challenging adventure, an abstract voyage. The scenery along the way is not merely visually beautiful; rather, it represents the changing experiences one undergoes during the journey. I composed this piece around the feelings of joy, transformation, and perseverance.
“Citadel” may refer to a concrete place or serve as a symbolic destination imbued with meaning. In my mind, it is like a fortress — not a typical castle, but a spiritual sanctuary, a home world, a place of refuge; something deeply significant to many. For some, Citadel is a home; for others, a bustling city; for still others, it stands as a symbol of their dreams. Everyone has a reason to reach it. I wondered: how can I express the extraordinary significance of such a place in music? I believe that the journey toward it is what truly gives the destination meaning. It is the process of moving toward a goal — the struggle, the growth, the striving — that I want to convey in this composition.
